Cabot Zucker:
It is so incredible to come to a place where a society has existed for hundreds of years prior to the commencement of the United States. History has made its mark across the country, from the relic bridges and old churches, to the rich cultural heritage spoken of by the people we have come across. This history is something America lacks in its infancy as a nation. All of us have really enjoyed learning and seeing the history that marks the Irish landscape. Our tour of Blarney Castle and visit to one of Ireland’s many alter tombs allowed us to look back and appreciate the many different people and times Ireland has been through. Now it is intriguing to see how Irish society has adapted to modern times. We found it interesting how narrow the roads are and how parking is a major limitation found in every town we have visited. Yet, this is understandable knowing that horse and buggies used to dominate the roads on which cars now reside. In the coming weeks, we all hope to grow in our knowledge of Irish history and modern society. By the end of this experience, new insights and perspectives may allow us to think more critically about our own way of life or appreciate certain aspects of our lifestyles back home.
